Hey Steed, try taking 250mg Vit C every couple hours. I'd also suggest taking a regimen of zinc citrate or gluconate according to directions. The latter is helpful with respect to production of macrophages. These little critters help with lung congestion. Mind not to taking too much zinc of for more than a few days, as you'll end up with initially more chest congestion than you started with. But its the good kind of congestion.

Supplement the mega-dose of Vit C with some high-B complex every other day or so. Also, ensure that you're hydrating youself sufficiently that you pee at least two quarts a day. One should be peeing at least a quart per day even if one isn't on a regemin of Vit C.

Depending how sick one is, they can tolerate as much as 250mg Vit C every hour. Depending how you feel will dictate how often (not how much) to take. The first clue that one is taking too much Vit C is a loose stool. Just start missing doses. If you're really sick, you'll notice right away when its time to take some more: you'll feel like you're relapsing. If you've been mega-dosing on Vit C, you don't want to just go cold turkey on it (as you will relapse, and depending on how nasty the bug is, relapse big time is definitely possible).

If you have been taking Vit C, and just can't seem to shake the bug, then you are either not taking enough Vit C, or check the expiry date? Chances are its old. One year I just couldn't shake this bug, and I was chowing the Vit C like candy. Then I noticed the expiry date was three years ago. I threw 500 pills away and ran out an bought a bottle of 50 pills and immediately after taking the first tablet the most wonderfull feeling of warmth came over me. I was right as rain within two days afterwards. I never buy more than what I'll use in a single season anymore, and throw out whatever open bottle I have at the end of fall.

Never take more than 250mg at a time. Any old C should do, but if it has boiflavanoids or rose hips in it you'll absorb it better.

Wash your hands after touching any type of community thing anywhere. Don't throw snot rags into the wastebasket, but into the toilette. When the snot dries out the virus goes airborn. Get a box of those handy-dan hand-wipe towels. Use 'em after returning to your car from the store, bank, after touching any community thing, etc.

Soak your teethbrush in a solution of bleach (1 tsp/8oz glass). Rinse well before using.

Spray aeorosol disinfectant around frequently until nobody's sick at home any more.

All of this is especially important a home, in that illness can be passed around the merry go round from one family member to another for weeks and weeks on end. The virus mutates while one person is infected, and gets passed to another, and can sufficiently mutates that the initial person gets sick again with essentially a brand new virus.
