ive had some premature detentations, for instance i engaged a huge taskforce last night in march of '42. About 200nm off the coast of the phillpians , i had a perfect fire solution on a yammato BB (there was 2 in the TF).
I fired a spread of 4 torps, at high speed setting, @ 1500yrds. 1 torp dentented about 500yrds after leaving my boat. However the rest hit her, in the bow section, it took two more torps to finish her.
In that patrol i got my first 100ktons of the game!

All off the relative coast of phily... lucky patrol there, barely made it back to austraila, so many air partols , and i was in swallow water tryin to make a straight to make a short cut.
