This has been posted before. It was a torpedo test off the Australian coast with an old Destroyer escort (HMAS Torrens). The collins class sub that sank it was HAMS Farncomb. The Torpedo was a Mark 48.

HMS Torrens was the last of 6 River class DE's to be decommisioned. Three were scraped, One sank as an artifical reef, one sunk as a dive site and the Torrens sunk as a target.
