There is a similar stir in modelling community where some companies want royalties for their airplanes and there was a try to organize people to call their congresmen to support a bill which would prevent manufacturers to ask for royalties for military designated aircraft which are paid for by tax dollars already. Not sure about the outcome, though..

Theres the crux, you can use TBF Avenger all you like, thats the USN desegnation, but the second you call it the
Grumman TBF Avenger, you're using corporate property and intellectual property, like you couldn't make a commercial emulator called Atari as a modern emulator and market it without their permission.
