Hi guys...!
Thanks for the warm welcome and thanks for your tips. Here's a couple of thoughts to answer some questions posted above...
#1.) Why did I gun the engines?
I gunned the engines to get away. My first mistake. I thought I'd push my luck and try to get a little further away from the DD escort. In fact, it gave me away I'm sure.
2nd mistake. Loading torps. It was just too hard to wait and let that darn convoy get out of range. I thought I'd try to load torps but I guess that's noisy--not sure about that but it seems from your experiences it is noisy and gives you away.
When I ordered silent running, it was too late.
So, it's not all the fault of Bernard. Sometimes the canooky kaleun gets a little too kooky!
I need more patience. I tend to get a little 'buck fever'....!
It's great to share stories....I'm new to posting on the net.
I've started a new career, this time a IIA from Kiel. I can't get to my assigned patrol (AF 87) zone and back without running out of fuel. I just save and exit but it seems that BDU is a little too demanding with their patrol zones, especially for a little IIA sub...!
