Do me a BIG favor please? The gentleman with the beard (I think his name was Tony) is a docent on the Pampanito and did a wonderful job when my wife and I visited the boat during Fleet Week last year. As we went through the boat Tony soon realized my interest and knowledge level went far beyond the normal tourist visiting a war memorial. So when we were about to leave I mentioned that it was unfortunate, but understandable for safety reasons that the conning tower was off limits. Tony then bent a few rules and gave me a personal tour of the conning tower! Anyway, the whole point of this little story is to ask you, if you happen to run into to Tony please tell him that the old Army guy from North Carolina that he showed around the conning tower will never forget his experience on the Pampanito!
To say I felt like a kid in a candy store would be a GROSS understatement!
