engines (immobilizes)
fuel (sets afire)
ammo(causesmajor damage)
or Cargo (damaging if explosive)

also of course when in range and able always shoot for the
waterline

waiting time helps ships may be doomed long before they show sunk.

when approaching from over the horizon as I close a ship
I will sequence like this.

aim for supertructure at max range as that is what can be seen
crossing 5000 metres I switch to aim for weapons to reduce
the potential enemy hitting power as I close crossing 3000
I switch to aim for waterline.
I do occasionally use aim for hull as a sort of auto setting coverall.
but I still always change to waterline as I cross three thousand.
