That would actually be the "USS Sinking Soon" - the SS designation simply means submarine in the US Navy code system:
BB= Battleship
BC = Battle cruiser
CV = Fleet carrier
CVL = Light carrier
CVE = Escort carrier
CA = Heavy cruiser
CL = Light cruiser (may have been a CLA for those AAA light cruisers w/ the 6 quick firing 5" gun turrets - memory fails here)
DD = Destroyer
DE = Destroyer escort
SS = submarine
(there were more for minor and auxiliary vessels but those were the main ones).
USS = is appended to every ship in commission and stands for United States Ship - it is akin to HMS in the Royal Navy. |
