Not true, dude. Sailing upwind, (close hauled) as close to the wind as you can get, especially in a decent breeze, the apparent wind (combined vectors of the true wind and the wind created by your forward speed) will have your flags streaming directly aft. If you're sailing downwind, you're correct.
