To each his own way of playing.. I would find boring zooming around the map at 2048 TC.
In SH3, hopefully "going on station" to the assigned grid is just a little part of the game (in fact nobody says you even have to go there, you will just loose a little extra renown...) and there is a lot more to be done on the way in and on the way back.
