Default 1 on 1 w/DDs

Just spent 6hours (ingame, bout 2hours RL) playing cat and mouse with a Town class DD just South of Ireland.

I need some knowledge and advise, so me made a post! hurrah!

Firstly, how many DCs does a DD carry? This Town class made about 8 passes, dropping ~6 charges a time.

Secondly, what's the best way to maneuver? I'm in an IXB and turned with the DD until it started its run, then I set rudder midships and full ahead to get passed it's attack run, after DCs detonated I turned into the DD and went underneath him (before he could drop charges) - seemed to work, but I had NO chance of actual escape, just indefinite evasion - not ideal.

Thirdly, what happens when a DD runs out of DC? I waited until he was out, after he made 2 passes without dropping I came to periscope depth and torpedoed him. If I hadn't, would he just follow me until another DD or maybe a Naval Bomber arrived?
