If this is the same campaign your in, i would save my renown and buy an XXI. I've never managed to get to 1944 ive always died around mid 1943 and usually by aircraft attack

With the new VIIC/42 fully upgraded that I have now, is it possible that my qualified flak gunners could take on any of those planes?

Yes they will i survive quite a long while on the surface when attacked by aircraft - i would hit flank and zigzag then order my flakgun crew to man the guns. The times my careers ended in aircraft fire was whenever i would have the time compression up more than 250 anything higher than that and your near the enemies fly zones, then expect a quick ending. GWX might have lighten this if your using the mod.
Their is the UFlak VIIC you could grab as well, looks ugly but it lives up to its name - its like a miniture fortress.
