Back in October last year, AMD completed the acquisition of ATI to the tune of 5.4 billion after jumping through all the necessary regulatory hoops. I don't think it's unfair to Intel, as they could've tried to aquire ATI too. It definitely will make things a little more challenging for Intel though.
