We will have the 3 main combatant class types. It really is only 3 distinct types:
S Class: WWI design model, really intended for coast defence built in early 20's.
Perch/Salmon/Sargo: Inter-war general purpose design model, built in mid 30's.
Tambor/Gato/Balao/Tench: true Fleet Type designed and intended specifically for a trans-Pacific war against Japan. These were developed and refined continuously through the war. These are the workhorses that really fought the war for the US, as the VII did for Germany.
The experimental cruiser types, the V class boats, are not in the game; I think because the developers found it too costly to model unique, eccentric types. We are very lucky to even have the S-Class.
