Actually Alex that sort of happens already.
If you get a good contact (
bit of a contradiction there!) with the magnetic and the damage model decides that the ship's back is broken, then the ship breaks in two with a whacking great ^ chunk out of the bottom.
Nothing really left of the hull to attach a graphic to...unless you are thinking of texturing both halves!
Besides, once it reaches the 'back broken' stage, it doesn't stay around long enough for you to admire the view!
