Actually they weren't that old, I mean they were build during WWII using spare parts of other ships.
I never understood the concept of Monitors. They might have made sense during WWI, but they were obsolete in WWII (IMHO).
They were slow and only had one big gun turret which isn't very efficient for shore bombardments. Am I right or am I missing something?
