LW: I've been playing around with the missiles, and it's looking (mostly) good! Did you turn down the Gauntlet to 80%? It seems a bit less accurate now, but that might be due to having to fire too late.
Here are the results I'm getting:
Using SLAM-ERs
Udaloy: SA-N-9: engaging at 6nm. CIWS: Ship is not turning to bring CIWS to bear.
Sovremenny: SA-N-7: engaging at 5nm. CIWS: very effective (but there are two of them on each side, so it should be)
Krivak: SA-N-4: engaging at 5nm. CIWS: effective, but overwhelmed.
Neustrashimyy: SA-N-9: engaging at 5nm. CIWS/Point-SAM: ship is not turning to bring the system to bear.
AI FFG: SM-2: engaging from 9nm. CIWS: Ship turns to bring CIWS to bear, but does not fire.
Using UGM-84:
Neustrashimmyy: SA-N-9 engaging at <5 nm; too late to be effective. Ship does not turn to bring point defenses to bear. Chaff saves his ass anyways.
AGM-84
Human FFG: Detected missiles at 8nm and was able to paint and engage.
Using Styx missiles
Human FFG: SM-2 able to fire from 20nm. (This is good b/c the Styx does not fly very low).
C801
Human FFG: SM-2 able to fire from 10nm.
C802:
Human FFG: SM-2 able to fire from 9nm. CIWS: Noticable downgrade, but still effective enough to kill multiple missiles. It does take a couple seconds at long range though.
P-3C (yeah, not a missile, but I thought I'd test the new 'needs to be on radar' feature)
Human FFG: SM-2 able to engage without Air Radar being turned on (targeted link contact).
I'm concerned about the ships not always turning to use, or turning and not using, the CIWS. But the changes targeting the effectiveness of the FCRs in painting seaskimmers seem to be working, and the CIWS, when it's firing, seems to be able to do the job without being practically impenetrable. The performance gap in FCRs between the FFG and the Russians is surprising, though.
More Testing:
Shipwreck SSM
Human FFG: Detected/engaged at 20nm. All good; not a seaskimmer.
SS-N-27
AEGIS: Engages stage 1 around 11nm. Is slow getting the volley off at the supersonic stage...only has time for 1 salvo, which is about 50% effective. The engagement ranges look good, but, I'm slightly concered about the speed of engagement and am troubled by the fact that it looks (EDIT: confirmed; 1 missile per vampire) like the ship is only firing one missile per target when those targets are about 8nm out and at supersonic speed. (Use em or lose em!) It's really hard to tell with so much flying, but I think they might even be shooting 2nd salvos at surviving 1st stages.
Human FFG: Detects Stage 1, after supersonic stage fired (~10nm), 50% of the time. Never detects supersonic stage. Able to fire on stage 1 using ESM hit, but not stage 2. I'm not sure what to think about this. On one hand, and FFG really shouldn't be able to deal with the -27 effectively. On the other hand, I'm concerned about MP and I expected the supersonic stage to at least be detectable and engagable...I just didn't think that the engagement would be very effective.
