As im guessing im probably reputed amongst the forum old timers of being staunchly anti-NYGM, and in some ways, i still am.

It's not that i didn't like their mod (well, parts of it anyway ), I just had personality conflicts with person or persons who rubbed me the wrong way. While i can hold a grudge for a very long time i usually can't hold one forever because at some point, i just get tired of hating, and end up letting things go and moving forward. (takes me awhile though )

With the release of GWX, I personally consider the "mod war" over. Now if the indivduals involved in either of the supermod feel the same way, i don't know, but for me, it's over, and between the two, SH3 is looking better then it ever has before. Honestly, i dont think its going to get much better. Who won the mod war? I have my opinion, but i don't think anyone can Offically, and authorivley say, "A" won and "B" lost. Infact, i wouldn't want that sort of decision ever made because it would only stoke the embers of a dying fire into a bonfire once again. We all have our opinion's.

But to reiterate, there comes a point, (at least for me) when you gotta let things go and move forward. And a key point here is that, even if you think someone is the biggest (insert colorful adjective here) in the world, if they've come out with a decent idea or design, one should at least acknowledge the idea and give it the credit it deserves. This and a desire to further hone SH3 is why ive taken to extracting some bits of NYGM and adapting them for GWX. This isn't an effort to rip one off or to turn one into the other, i simply see how some things could be improved if one was to swallow some pride and admit, "Hey, not bad". I figured i'd put some step forward in that direction. Maybe its the first steps, could be the only step, who knows. Since i have equal residence on both DTB's and Lehmann's "schitt list", im not going to get overly concerned about it.

Some things from NYGM works in GWX like a charm, other things do not. It just takes some experimentation and the willingness to try to find out. Between the two, i dont see how SH3 is going to get much better, sure theres room for improvement, there always is, but i personally dont expect to see any more evolutionary leaps in modding for SH3. It's all we can do now to put the polish on what's been done, and enjoy it all for what its worth while we wait for SH4.
I missed the mod wars, but rest on our laurels and polish the cannonball, No! Polish the cannonball yes, but bring on the Type XI Cruiser sub and a few hundred other ideas I have no intention of stopping now I will need to learn all these skills prior to sh4 but reflecting on that last week I thought
that it is Unlikely that I will give up sh3 when sh4 comes out. As the atlantic Campaign is far closer to most of us (though obviously not all) than the pacific campaign. I Love this game and will in all likely hood love the next one more, but I played SH1 for years after it went out of fashion,
I dont expect to give up the game or stop trying in my own little way to push the envelope on it. I Love this Game, I Love the subsim community, I love the history of the campaign. and as I observed on another thread last week, unlike most online communities the subsim community has something most dont a history, and as we refine the game closer to the historical model, we contribute to the living history of the campaign in a way that books archives and documentaries cant. the caliber of minds here on average is intense, and why stop doing push ups with them just because we have a game next month. I dont just mod sh3 to get what I want in the game I learn it to exercise my mind on this incredible set of stairs
MM.
