I've also experienced crashes to blue screen upon exiting the GWX game, never during the game. The error report always comes back to the ATI driver. Several times I've then had corrupted sound and had to do a restore.
I have aToshiba laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 sound chip. I run AVG virus, Spybot, Adaware and 2 registry fix programs. I've also reinstalled the game several times as well as the drivers. Still have intermittent crashes to blue screen on exit.
This weekend I downloaded the trial version of SpeedUpMyPC which has really good graphs of memory usage, CPU usage, Disk drive usage, etc. This program runs in the background and will show the usage for the last hour.
The last time I played the game and before exiting; I took a look at these 1-hour usage graphs. The memory graph probably never went over 80 - 90%, but the CPU graph was almost always at the very top (100%). Now, as I looked at the CPU graph and was still on the games menu page, the CPU graph began to come down to almost nil. I went back to the menu, clicked exit and the game closed normally to desktop without a crash.
My therory here is: wait some small amount of time until CPU usage goes down before exiting the game. I'll test out this therory in the coming days.
Over-taxed CPU's may be causing mid game crashes for some others with similar problems? Just a thought.
