That may be true - BUT, have you noticed that in just about every sub movie (at least the ones I can remember seeing - I haven't gone back to check them so I could be off base on this) the soundman seems to be sitting there with only one headphone ear on and one off? I always assumed that this was so they could hear orders/questions from the captain, which they might otherwise miss if they had both ears under the headphones. If you did that, you would also be hearing all that ambient sound from your own boat, so maybe it's not so bad for those sounds to be in the file. Too bad there's not a way to switch back and forth to simulate slipping both ears under the 'phones occasionally if you need to hear better
