"During the war twenty-two U.S. Navy fleet carriers (CVs) and nine small aircaft carriers (CVLs) served in World War II. Eight ships were built before the war started and the rest were built during the war.
During the war two classes of ships were built: By my count that's 66. Not including those sunk during the war. Not quite 100.

The US had by the end if the war built 117 Escort carriers
31 given to the UK and 6 sunk during the war
They had built ( including carriers available at war start ) 34 fleet carrriers by the end of the war with 4 sunk
Which if my maths serve me correct is 110 at war end
Wheras the Uk had by the end of the war built 24 fleet carriers ( including carriers available at war start ) and also built another which went to Canada
5 were sunk
Escort carriers were 44 in number with 2 sunk
And 17 merc conversions - none sunk
Which meant 80 by the war end
According to uboat.net anyway
Didnt count the ships never completed ( US=2 ) or finished as maintenance ships ( UK=2 )
