These were the only ships actually built as convoy escorts prewar.
They are sloops, which the Black Swan class was an improved version of and these are modded versions of that ship.
For those that mod the RND.mis file to have correct ships as escorts these are important as the V&W DDs were the only other major escort but they could not make the whole crossing along with trawlers. The first Hunt class escort destroyers and Flower corvettes did not start to appear until summer of 1940 and the US 4 stackers fall of 1940.
By using type 2 generic in the RND and having more than the one available it adds random possibilities therefore less predictability.
As for the cruisers the Arethusa class was particularly active in the Med with Aurora and Penelope being devastating to Italian convoys and they also manned the picket patrols in the NA.
SW also has an extra Italian DD as well as other DDs and DEs. I also asked them to add one of the Hunt class as a DE so there would be more than the River class. (GW also added a US DE as Brit, a good idea)
When there is but one type 2 and type 3 the convoys can be more easily predicted as to content and that seems a bit dumb, realistic wise.
SW also added an HC;ass. Like the CClass but because the CClass represents the A-H classes by making a new H it could have some of the differences from the earlier CClass.
While the game play is way too active in SW for historic purpose to say it is boring is not accurate as if anything it is way to active. Luftwaffe bombers were often seen bombing ships and I was robbed of credit by bombers. It was kinda fun to watch the AA and bombs fall though.
Certainly weak compared to GWX for those that are serious simmers.
