I started my GWX career without doing the Naval Academy Exams and had 1500 for renoun right at the start. Even doing the Exams in my Stock SHIII with excellent for 4 out of 5 exams I only received 1500. So it's a tossup, you can do them for practice but don't really have to.

Works nice if you've done them before and don't want to bother with your other installs. No matter what you do, you get 1500 for your career start.
