Your career won't END if you oppose Bdu orders in SH3. Opposing them will only decrease the renown you got in that particular patrol.

Also, you may use SH3 commander to change the patrol grid
Believe it or not (if you are playing using the GWX mod) your patrol grids are historically correct... even the ones in shallow water.
NO MAN.....SHALLOW WATERS=DEATH! I'M NOT GOING AND THAT IS FINAL!
Attention: New Orders KptLt AVGWarhawk you are to report immediately to Rustov on the Don and lead a group of three commandos to Moscow to assassinate Comrad Stalin. Do not return unless you are successful. BDU (That will teach you to ******* with BDU!!)
Your equipment loadout for your mission is as follows:

One (1) Luger with two (2) bullets. One for Comrade Stalin, and one for yourself after your mission is accomplished. You really don't ******* with BdU

Best patrol grid = most any of the eastern AM grids you're assigned. The Irish channel is TEEMING with tonnage. Of course there's the small matter of DD and Elco patrols, not to mention the hourly plane patrols. But hey, nobody said war was easy!

Actually, I like the grids around the mouth of Gibraltar as well. If you stay far enough back from the straight itself, all you have to contend with is the planes. It's a nice bottleneck so you know you'll have a shot at anything that comes in or goes out.
