I ask the engineer. Frequently! -- On the IXB, I go out at 8 kts across the Atlantic. If destination is off Halifax, I have 75% fuel left. Going to Caribbean, I have about 60% fuel left at Anegada Passage. In both cases, enough to have some fast speed runs and being able to return to Lorient at 10-12 knots.
