If external torpedos were in fact transfered to the bow loading hatch, they would have to have been floated from the stern to the bow as I described (above) in the transfer of torpedos at sea from supply ships/subs.
Exactly, that's how they did it, and is very much possible. But as mentioned here the operation took a long time, 2 hours or more. Then it becomes very dangerous of course since they can't dive while moving the torpedo. And because of this, as von Zelda says, external torpedoes were not allowed during the late war, except on the boats heading for the far east.
