I thought that the 'displacement' value is the weight of the equivalent volume of water occupied by the boat. Whether it's manned or not shouldn't make a difference to this value as the men inside don't add to the volume of the boat. The weight of the boat in ratio to it's displacement determines it's buoyancy. Therefore, if it's manned and on the surface it will displace more because it's heavier and therefore lower in the water, but when submerged the displacement is at it's maximum and can't get any higher. Is this incorrect?
