Hello and welcome to SubSim

if you are playing GW or NYGM then yes do go ahead and raid ports. In the stock game ports are usually empty. If you do go to raid a port remember a few simple rules.

1. Use the weather to your advantage. Raid in bad weather or at night.
2. Go to periscope depth at about 20-25km from the harbour to avoid the patrol boats. Use silent running and be quick. Aim the ship you want hit it hard and get out as soon as possible.
3. I always hit the warships first. That way they cannot be used against you. After that merchants are easy targets.
4. Be very careful of mines and subnets. They can have you killed
5. Try to hit the targets at critical areas to avoid them flood and sit on the bottom of the sea, as you might lose renown.

Good Luck and Good Shooting
