The 8800GTX doesn't seem to be such a power hog after all. In fact the new cards appear to be more efficient that the previous generation and certainly are so in terms of performance per watt.
Being a loyal PC fan and one who can't stand consols I particularly liked this quote from the Anandtech review:
Quote:
Back when Sony announced the specifications of the PlayStation 3, everyone asked if it meant the end of PC gaming. After all Cell looked very strong and NVIDIA's RSX GPU had tremendous power. We asked NVIDIA how long it would take until we saw a GPU faster than the RSX. Their answer: by the time the PS3 ships. So congratulations to NVIDIA for making the PS3 obsolete before it ever shipped, as G80 is truly a beast.

My big concern however is over the size, specifically the length of the 8800GTX card compared to the old 7900GTX. THG claims that the top end card is 11" long! Will this fit in PC cases without having to change or limit your setup inside the case in terms of hard drive bays and such? :hmm: Specifically I'm concerned with this issue regarding the Antec P180B case which I plan to base my new Christmas or early 2007 rig on.
