Im just guessing, but Adolf, at the time before and during WW2, was probably about as common a name as Hans.

If the guy was really in the uboat service, or really a vet of WW2 in general, so long as his poltical tendencies aren't National Socialsm, id listen to what he's have to say. People who were alive back then are living history books, and it would be a shame to not hear their stories before they die of extreme old age.
Its a shame really, in our hospitals in the US, WW2 vets are sort of just stuck in a home (its what we do with our old people), and just fading away. Its a shame we all can't take time out from our rat racing living to hear their stories.
