Well I think Donitz wants me back home alive, and not continue with a damaged boat. In the IIA my diveplanes was destroyed after an aircraft attack, not being able to dive I went back to base with four torps left.
The damage reduces renown, but not sure about the torps. But it sound weird gettin punished for taking ammo back to base, torps, flak ammo and deck gun ammo. Besides this happened a lot during the war, don't think taking back torps reduces renown.
