there is a mod for the emergency surface order that didnt come with default sh3 (should be in grey wolves)....so if you give the order to blow ballast/emergency surface..you will hear extra sounds such as the air rushing through the hull of the ship and the metal knocking as it adjusts to the pressure....

as for the regular surfacing order......its mostly just dive planes and the diesel engine as the sequence is modelled in the sh3 game.......so I think the sound is about right...

surfacing was much quieter than diving.....there was less of a rush to open things as there was to closing things during a dive....when diving you were flooding the ballast tanks with tons of seawater and everything had to be closed right away before it submerged....so, i think there is a noticeable difference between the two...and I think its moddeled just right....

Mod-wise you can make sounds for anything if you wanted to hear air movement in the ballasts etc. while surfacing..... but, it wouldn't match what is happening in game....your gauges for compressed air remain the same on a normal surface command...compressed air is only used during the emergency surface option... and is reason why I think people never bothered making a surfacing sequence....

I personally always wanted to have a sound linked to the compressor tanks refilling on the surface....like an engine sound inside the helm that would last until the tanks were full again then cut off.....but, there is no way of tying a sound to the gauge reading as the air refills or to the message the states the compressor tanks are 100%....it only comes in a text message. If ubisoft added a voice to this text....there could probably be an engine sound tied to it that would sound like an air compressor....only downside is your air compressor state is variable )based on how much air you use before surfacing/each time is different).....whereas as sound file is usually a fixed length and would need an interrupt for the engine sound once the tanks reached 100% full.
