I personally use Goldwave www.goldwave.com , but there are several good free ones out there. Once a file is loaded into Goldwave it shows what the manner of the file is: cycles per second, stereo or mono etc, which makes it easy to match from the dropdown list.

My ambient interior file is the SHIII Internal Life mod, which is about 10 minutes long, and it repeats with no problem.
