Seriously though, ceilings don't just fall down, even small chunks, and it's the landlord's responsibility to make sure that the property is safe for people to live in; unless this is caused by sudden water damage in which case there's probably not much he could have done so long as the plumbing was in order.
How much stuff has been damaged, appart from the top of your head?
