you know the really weird thing about these "nanny" shows?
quite often a parent will have to spend over an hour forcefully dragging a child to a "naughty chair" over and over and over again ....when one good sharp smack would have the desired impact...i fail to see how a protracted period which involves physicaly dragging a child (against it's will) round a house can be some how considered more humane or politicaly correct than a smack and a "stop it" command which is over in seconds....

IMO the nanny method is nothing short of prolonged physical mental and emotional torture for both the parent AND the child....but what do i know..

one wonders if a examination of the child after such a prolonged period of nannying would reveal more physical injury and bruising to the child than the simple easy to understand smack..

as un PC as it can be to say this....children have a driving need to know that their parents love them enough to discipline them...specificaly when that discipline is intended to protect them from harm....without that knowledge and security the child just implodes

here's my experience of crossing the path of these children...

some time ago i found a dairy and address book in a telephone box....
it was a nice sunny day and at the time i had a motorbike on the road so i though "sod it" i'll take the book back to it's owner..
i found the address got of the bike ...i kncoked on the door of the address...the door opened i told the woman i had found her address book..
she told me it wasn't her "bleep bleep address book and i should just bleep off "
i thought this is going well...and went to get back on my bike to find that group of younger teenagers were in the process of tearing it to pieces...i managed to get on the bike and started it up with the kids running round the bike like demented idiots it didn't seem safe to pull off.. so i killed the engine...were upon the lead kid walked up to me and began spitting in my face..(i had an open face helmet on) i didn't say anything but just stared at him with a polite smile i had some how forgotten to remove from my face..
this continued for a good few minutes untill the smile finally fell of my face... at which point he told me that the woman the address book actually belonged to was staying with her mother who lived round the courner...so i delivered the book and b*ggered off..

in light of more recent experiences and the current behaviour of some kids i consider myself to have gotten of lightly-- if the above events had happened in more recent times i no doubt would have been stabbed shot or otherwise rendered a lifeless corpse on the side walk..don't tell me it only happens one time out of every hundred and fifty meetings...

needless to say since that moment (a good ten years ago) i do not consider on the spur of the moment minor good deeds to be in any way worth the risks involved either to my self or my property...and that includes the scenario suggested by the news article
