NYGM is a bit harder at full realism levels than GW is. I actually did copy over a career started with GW into NYGM. The only problem I had was that my crew was too large and there was some funky renown and tonnage issues. I ended up just restarting a fresh career.

You can find download links for NYGM at it's home page. Note that the 2.2 download is midway down the 'Home' page, not on the 'Downloads' page.
