You can go through the Channels, but it's a death run, especially with a super-mod. Don't attempt it after 1939 or early 1940, as it'll be full of mine-fields and warships.

That pretty much sums it up espically the "after 1940" part.
Yea its a LOOOOONG way around but war is hell. Its alot better than blundering into a mine.
You should be okay on fuel as long as you keep it down to ahead 1/3. Submerging occasionally will help extend the range a bit as well.
I know that its up for debate but in my experience its true.
