I think Russia fears its options diminish, that is why it does not like NATO encroaching on its neighbours. With NATO there is no more coercion like what we see being done to Georgia. In this situation Georgia is in a kind of Neville vs Hitler situation. No matter what Georgia does or doesn't do it will be irrelevant as Russia prepares to take the steps it believes are necessary.
