The course of the North African campaign had been decisively altered. However, the cost was a heavy one. 74 of the 206 boats in the Submarine Service did not return, while 3,142 men (1 in 3 who served) were killed and 359 captured.
a fleet of 206 subs destroyed 616 vessels, thats an averge of 3 ships per sub...
Now bear in mind that:
1153 Uboats sank 2,779 vessels, closer to and average of 2 ships per sub...
Suddenly a british sub campaign seems more appealing..

US Fleet submarines sank over 1300 ships including 1 Battleship,8 Carriers,11 Cruisers and 180 other warships a total of 5.3 million tons with a loss of 52 submarines and 3500 crewmen nearly 22% of the US sub fleet. All told US Fleet subs accounted for 60% of all Japanese tonnage sunk in the Pacific.
I do agree that having other subs to control would be fun but we all knew that would not happen.Given the Silent Hunter series track record everyone should have known that the US Pacific war would be made with SH4.
Hopefully Ubi will step away from it's usually stingy side it has when it comes to the SDK's of their games and actually release it so the modders can add their own submarines into the game.
