1d20 is a way of saying "roll one 20 sided die to generate a number from 1 to 20". It's based on the set of dice most commonly used for Dungeons and Dragons and more recently the d20 system of games. Rather than use the full D&D set of d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 and d20 they redesigned the system to use mostly just d20.
You can get a 20 sided die for less than $1 at your local hobby store, or use an
online dice roller if you'd like.
