The only messages I've gotten, besides enemy convoy positions, is "Keep up the good work!" after I sent a report. I'm running a few mods, mostly graphics, but no super mod.

Hehe, yeah what messages? I get none whatsoever, unless I send a patrol report which gets the same old, same old respnse so I just dont bother anymore. In fact I dont even see any point to having a man in the radio room for that matter.
