The thing about the power supply is indeed relatively new, though that situation exists for a few years already. A video card upgrade was basically never "click and run it", even 15+ years ago your had to check if you Mainboard can support it. First we had ISA (8 or 16 bit), then EISA, VLB, several specifications of PCI and AGP and nowadays PCI-Express, which also comes in different flavours. Times havenīt changed very much in that regard.
