The Watt numbers are believable, if you consider that even RAM today is one of the biggest power consumers in your system. Depending on type, RAM can consume up to 10-20% of the RAM size in Watts. that means that eventually fastest RAM type of for example 2 GB in size can consume up to 400 Watt max.
Funny how often RAM is overseen as a major power consumer.
Since the industry obviously shows no motivation to keep the lid on the pan regardiung power consummation, I tend to agree that action by the lawmakers may be necessary to boost the motivation to find more creative replacement solutions for this kind of power-hungry technology. |
Must be some garbage RAM. Not sure a normal PSU can power that. I have 2 GB and I don't draw a fraction of that amount. If you overclock it and increase the timing and voltage, then I could see it start to rise in power consumption.
