Sailor Steve,
I'm still somewhat unfamiliar where everything is located here in this forum.

The general topics board? :hmm:
I guess I remember Joe Rosenthal and the photograph the most from having the honor of meeting one of the forty member platoon that went up Suribachi 23 February. Charles Lindberg (not the famous aviator). He's a Grand Forks native, now living in Minneapolis. One of the greatest days I'll always remember when was here fives years ago to dedicate the World War II memorial in East Grand Forks. I asked him to sign another photograph by Joe Rosenthal of that day in one of my books about Iwo Jima. Then I got a lump in my throat (and I'm sure some of the people standing nearby) as he paged through the book pointing out all of his friends in the platoon from that day as if it was last week. Including the six in the famous photogragh. All were his buddies.
Here's another name I'll throw out for research.

Commander Joseph F. Enright. A quick hint: He's from Parshall, North Dakota. Class? Anyone? Class?

He holds a world record. Class? Anyone?
