For the Netherlands, the US is a more important trading partner than vice versa. Last year, 5.7 % of the Netherlands' total goods exports went to the US. For the Americans, those goods represented just over 1 % of their imports. The Dutch trade deficit with the US has existed for decades but has increased significantly in recent years. Compared to 2020, the Netherlands imported over 66 % more from the US last year, mainly because the Netherlands is buying more US petroleum and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Over the same period, Dutch exports from the US increased by 50 %.
