You don’t need a perfect 0 angle gyro shot.
As long as you are inside 3000 yards just setting an arbitrary lead angle of 10 or 20 degrees and letting the TDC figure out the gyro angle (won’t be 0 but close enough for government work) will be fine… errors in range won’t matter enough to miss.
Range matters when you’re dealing with large gyro angle shots due to to parallax (distance between scope and bow/stern). As long as your close to 0 gyro angle and not 8000 yards out, you should be fine.
