Newspapers?
This is an idea I've been playing around with. It can be done by textures, and it'd add a bit to the game. I suppose SH3 Commander would be one way to implement it.
Basically, you add a closed newspaper to the textures of some bench or to the captain's bed. Make several versions of this texture file, each with a date-specific newspaper. Then, when Silent Hunter III is launched by SH3 Commander, it checks the date of the game and adds the right texture file. For example, after Paris falls in the game, change the texture to a newspaper with the headline "PARIS FALLS!" (in German, so it'd be "PARIS BESIEGEN" or something). When the Russians are near Berlin, have it read "OH SCHEIZE!!!1111 AAAH!":p. And so on.
