Unfortunately, 6 MP cameras have recently become the standard. A 6, or even 5 megapixel photograph will take a fair degree of enlargement without distortion, but still lacks true fidelity. For that, they now have digital SLRs that go up to 16 MPs.
If you have the $3000 to shell out for one of those, first: More power to you. Second: Can I come over and play with it?
