[Der Spiegel] Russia wants to talk to future rulers about bases in Syria. Russia maintains an air force base in Syria and a naval base with warships in the Mediterranean port of Tartus. The presence there is of strategic importance to ruler Vladimir Putin due to the access to the Mediterranean. It seems uncertain what will happen to the bases in view of the situation in Syria. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that it was still too early to talk about the future of the Russian military bases in Syria. Russia would discuss this with the future rulers in Syria. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the bases are currently in a heightened state of readiness, but there is no threat to the soldiers.
