I lumped these two together just so I could ask the question: How do you know they keep singing? If there's no one to hear it, do they keep it up? (I know the answer is yes, but I had to ask).

In U-boats the captain could sleep for weeks on end, only waking up when an enemy was sighted.

While this was going on, sometimes the weather would never change.

Speaking of weather: It's always clear, calm and cloudless when a U-boat leaves port.
